Winchester Special order Model 70 standard weight bolt action rifle in .405 W.C.F. caliber built by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1940. Winchester Proof Steel standard weight style barrel with hooded ramp front sight and plugged rear dovetail with Lyman 48 rear peep. Barrel is marked on underside with "H" then "405" then "triangle with 1" and dated "40". Barrel has correct markings with address on right hand side and caliber and model markings on left. Blackened finished action with correct 2 factory drilled holes in front bridge and no holes in rear bridge. Action is cut for stripper clip and is in the correct pre-War style with correct style bolt electropenciled with serial number of action. Walnut low comb style checkered pistol grip stock with pre-War style fine checkering. Stock has factory bow type sling swivels and steel checkered widow's peak buttplate. CONDITION: 90% plus original blue with small scratch in floorplate and some minor handling marks. 90% varnish with some small dings and handling marks with a possible coat of wax added at one point in time. Phenomenal bore and mechanics. A hard to find rifle with superb condition. DLM
