Manufactured 1929 as per 23710A serial number. Underside of barrel with Moly Nickel Steel stamp, VP barrel maker, 1925 manufacture date, "30 40" caliber marking. Normal Winchester Trade Mark receiver stamp. Lyman brass bead front sight, 2 leaf Lyman 66W rear sight with one fixed and one folding. Matte receiver top with 2 holes drilled and tapped for a sight. No stripper clip cutout. Bolt is electropencilled "23710" on underside; 3 position safety. Stock with non-deluxe checkering, schnabel tip forearm, sling swivels at forearm tip and along toe line. Serrated buttplate. CONDITION: Very good. Metal retains the vast majority of the bluing with attractive feathering around front sight. Stamps are good. Some silvering to operational areas and high edges, most noticeable on bolt. Stock is good with numerous bumps and pressure marks. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand, bore is very good. A rare, possibly a special order uncatalogued, caliber.
