Circa 1900. A 12 gauge with two pair of 28" nitro proofed barrels, both with ejectors. First set of barrels has 2 - 3/4" chambers and the second with 2 - 1/2" chambers. The dovetailed barrels have low, matte concave game ribs that are engraved “SCOTT’S IMPROVED BOLT” near breech with square crossbolt extensions. Tops of barrels are engraved “W & C. SCOTT & SON THE IMPERIAL PREMIER (castle logo) 10 Gt, CASTLE STREET” on top of right barrels, and “REGENT CIRCUS LONDON ENGLAND.” on left. Breech ends of barrels are relief engraved with oak leaf motif, which extends 1 - 1/2" down barrels. Barrel flats have London proofs. Serial numbers are on bottom of No. 1 barrels. Bottom of right barrels are engraved “Special Steel A 1” on the No. 1 barrels. Both barrels with London proofs for 1 - 1/8 ounce of shot. "Rogers" sidelock action has automatic safety with “Safe” inlaid in gold, double triggers, square crossbolt third fastener, side clips, Scott patent vented breech, and semi-round action bar. Action and lockplates have full coverage relief engraving of shaded oak leaf and branch background with game birds in various poses; flying geese on bottom of action, duck and two woodcock are on right lockplate, and a grouse and two quail on left lockplate. Fences and action beads have high relief carving of acanthus scroll with shaded ground. Oak leaf motif extends to its top lever and action tang. Trigger guard bow has oak leaf motif matching background of action, with monogram (DH) inlaid in gold. Serial number in relief on trigger guard tang which is also adorned with oak leaves and castle logo. Nicely figured European (Italian walnut - according to W&C Scott book) walnut semi-pistol round knob grip. The buttstock measures 13 - 5/8" over ribbed horn plate. Stock features drop points, fine and sharp checkering with fleur-de-lis design at borders. There is a gold shield plate at top of grip under. Matching splinter forend has Anson release. Oak and leather case has brass corners and hardware with initial plate on front edge bearing the initials “JHE”. The case interior is lined in red cloth and contains a three-piece cleaning rod and mops. CONDITION: Fine. Barrels retain most all of a well-done re-black, engraving remains sharp. Shows very pleasing silver highlights on engraving. Lockplates retain a considerable amount of case color, but again, a great deal of silvering. Trigger guard retains most of a re-blue. Top lever has a good amount of original blue, with some silvering on the thumbpiece. The stock retains most of an oil refinish with light handling marks from use. The checkering is good. Action is tight. Both sets of barrels are on face. Bores are very fine. Leather case is darkened and has been polished, various scuffs and rubs still remain. Handle has been lost. Interior cloth is fair, partitions are tight, and there are numerous marks and rubs from contact with gun. A very fine gun. FYI: Back in their day Imperial Premiers were rivals to the London Best guns and today are very scarce and all are individual. CP

CORRECTION: Lot 1316 was previously sold in 2009 at James D. Julia's with one set of 28" and one set of 24" barrels. Barrel set (B) shows evidence of being lengthened, likely sleeved with modification to the rib and bead.
