Standard configuration Springfield Model 1899 Krag carbine, featuring a 22" round barrel, blade front sight with 2,400 yard rear sight, as well a knurled headless cocking piece. Stock is comprised of walnut and features the "high hump" handguard. Major metal components are blued, with the extractor being nitre blued, and with the trigger guard and barrel band retaining a high polish blue. The left side of the receiver is marked "U.S./ MODEL 1899. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY" followed by the serial number. Encircled "P" proof mark is present behind the trigger guard, with the final inspector's stamp on the left-hand side being illegible. Butt trap retains its three-piece cleaning rod and oiler. CONDITION: Metal components retain the vast majority of their original blue finish, exhibiting some edge wear, with some wear on either side of the front sight, as well as some very light freckling on the magazine gate. Extractor retains lustrous amounts of its fire blued finish. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Stock has been lightly cleaned, being still proud to the metal and exhibiting a few scattered handling and storage marks. These Model 1899 carbines were the last carbine variation produced in the Krag series of guns, and while produced in fairly large quantities, one of this condition is seldom seen. -MLW-
