1871 vintage Winchester Model 1866 rifle, serial number 78814. 24" octagon barrel with full-length magazine tube. Chambered .44 RF. Sling provisions mounted to the forearm cap and buttstock. Replaced highly figured walnut stock and forearm. Henry style fold-down ladder rear sight graduated to 900 yards. Small blade front sight. Custom engraved with scrollwork and punch dot backgrounds. Date of work or name of engraver is unknown. CONDITION: Fine as refinished. Frame, forearm cap, and buttplate show approximately 80% reapplied silver finish. Barrel and magazine tube have been stripped with an artificial aging solution applied. Bore is turning dark with good rifling. Action operates correctly however a bit sticky. Overall a colorful, restored Model 1866 Winchester rifle. -MKS-
