1878 Vintage Winchester Model 1876 rifle, serial number 7799. 2nd Model with impressed oval "thumbprint" dust cover with screw-secured rail. Blue with case hardened hammer, lever, and rifle style crescent buttplate. Fireblue "peacock" loading gate. 28" full octagon barrel with special ordered button length magazine tube. German silver small blade front sight. 2-leaf fold-down rear barrel sight and Lyman tang mounted sight. Chambered in .45-60 WCF. Plain, straight grain walnut stock and forearm. CONDITION: Excellent with approximately 95% original barrel blue, beginning to thin. Approximately 93% bright original blue on the frame with small spotty areas of thinning. Strong original case colors on the lever and hammer. Buttplate has turned a dove grey patina. Rear barrel sight leaf has been period filed flat. Bore is bright and clean. Action is tight and crisp. Wood is excellent showing modest wear with a couple scattered light dents. Overall a most attractive special ordered Model 1876 "Centennial" Winchester rifle. -MKS-
