Circa Spanish American War era US Navy 5" shell. The brass shell is displayed with a wood dummy projectile and is secured to a wood base with a display card that is stapled to the base and reads "SHELL FIRED BY THE U.S. OLYMPIA, ADMIRAL DEWEY'S FLAGSHIP, AT MANILA BAY. MUSEUM RARITY." written in marker. CONDITION: The brass remains clean with scattered scratches and blemishes. The wood projectile has some paint loss. The wood base exhibits several cracks and paint loss. Overall good. This shell was once owned by the noteworthy World War II veteran and collector John Lattimer. He claimed to have obtained the shell from Bannerman Castle but there is no provenance to support this claim or the Spanish American War provenance that is with this shell. JLD
