Lot consists of: (A) World War II Japanese Naval Aviation Type 3 Flight Computer complete with its original numbers matching storage box. These computers were carried and used by aviators for navigation purposes. The flight computer is of mostly aluminum construction which indicates early war production. An interesting feature of this flight computer is that it retains its original metal hook that is attached to the computer by a piece of parachute cord. The metal hooks were used to attach the flight computer to parts of the aircraft or the aviator's flight suit. The wood box retains its original metal data plate as well as the original paper the paper label on the lid. The computer and box data plates match. CONDITION: The computer exhibits tarnishing on the reverse but is overall very clean and all the numbers are legible. The box exhibits some scratches and scuffs but is in equally clean condition. The only flaws are that the fragile metal hinges that connect the lid to the box have broken so the lid is detached and the metal hooks on the front have rusted. Overall very good. (B) World War II Japanese Naval Aviation dive bomber flight computer complete with its original numbers matching box. These computers were designed to strap around the thigh of the aviator and this example retains its original black elastic straps. The wood box retains its original metal data plate which matches the data plate on the computer as they are marked with the same number "200396". CONDITION: The computer is very clean and only exhibits slight blemishes. All numbers remain legible. The box exhibits typical scratches and blemishes but is overall clean. The only flaw is that the metal hook on the front has rusted. Overall very good. These are two exceptional examples of World War II Japanese Naval flight computers. JLD
