Prussian 18th Century (circa 1760) hussar sword of the style known to have been used during the reign of the Prussian King, Frederick II. He was also known as "Frederick the Great", who ruled Prussia from 1740-1786 and is credited with modernizing his kingdom. Consignor provided a "Certificate of Authenticity" from "Hundred & One Antiques" in Toronto, Canada. The slightly curved steel blade is marked with a crowned Prussian eagle of the style known to have been associated with being manufactured in Potzdam, Prussia (now known as Potsdam, Germany), the home of the Prussian Kings and the primary Prussian arsenal. Blade exhibits scattered marks and light freckling throughout. The brass hilt is the style typical of the Prussian Hussars, with uniform patina and a damaged pommel cap. The wooden grip is covered with its original leather with heavy crazing in very good condition, with twisted copper wire of which approximately a dozen are loose. Wood is exposed over approximately 20% of the grip. Brass scabbard exhibits a moderate to heavy number of dents throughout, and the tip has been reinforced long ago with a strip of brass.
