Lot consists of (A) Classic form of one of the oldest variants of the Indian sword with spatulate tip, sawtooth cutting edge, and false edge sawtooth back. Elongated Indian form "ricasso" with damascened gold dots and borders which extends down to guard, pommel, and tapered pommel rod with finial. Grip wrapped with green cloth (muslin?), guard in red with golden trim. CONDITON: Very good, with blade cleaned in the European style and now gunmetal grey with some old spotting. Guard and pommel a pleasant chocolate color with gilding throughout with some losses to gilding. Interior cloth is very good with solid stitching and some rubs. (B) Dhal buckler measuring 9" in diameter. Red cloth (muslin?) backing with hand forged 4 ring and 2 strap handle. Rear of shield shows appropriate delamination underneath the muslin. Front is wonderfully decorated with gold and silver damascened geometrics and brass relief florals with four bosses damascened en suite. CONDITION: Very good. Decorations have been carefully handled to avoid rust with a few minor marks and one or two tight delamination cracks. Rear of shield with some old oxidation under muslin. A nice set with a particularly nice dhal. EW
