Model 1908 Luger manufactured by DWM in 1913 under contract for the German military. Metal components are rust blued, with smaller components being strawed and nitre blued. No hold-open device was added. Receiver is marked "1913" over the chamber with DWM proofs on the right hand side. Right side of receiver, barrel, and left side of breech block bear German Imperial eagle stamps. Front grip strap is marked "14.R.5.11." indicating issue to the 4th Division, 14th Infantry Regiment, 5th Company. All numbers are matching with the exception of the magazine. Complete with a scanned short history of the 4th Division during World War I. CONDITION: Metal components retain bountiful amounts of original salt blue finish, exhibiting a few areas that appear to be old touch ups (possibly arsenal), and showing few scattered areas of wear all around. Grip straps show some very light surface oxidation. Toggle and breechblock markings are soft in some areas, with the remainder of markings being sharp. Strawed components show wear all around, as well as some areas of age related discoloration. Safety bar has been slightly bent in one corner at one point. Bore is bright, exhibiting what appears to be some dried cosmoline, as well as fair rifling throughout. Checkered walnut grips show light smoothing, with some scattered nicks and impressions to the checkering. Left grip panel bears a loss to the rear of the safety lever cut, with the right grip exhibiting a small chip. These Model 1908 military Lugers were the first Luger variation to utilize the final iteration of the military marking system on all military Lugers from 1910-1945, making this an attractive example of an early German military contract DWM manufactured Model 1908 Luger. -MLW-
