Manufactured by the Royal Arsenal at Erfurt in 1916 for the German army. Receiver is marked "1916" over the chamber area, with Erfurt arsenal proofs on the right hand side. German Imperial eagle is present on the right side of the receiver and barrel, as well as on the left side of the breechblock. Frame, toggle, and barrel are marked with a crown over "RC" indicating arsenal rework, repair, and reissue. British crown over "BNP" nitro proofs are present on the frame, barrel, and breechblock, with additional British import markings on the underside of the barrel. Front grip strap is marked "113.R.2.9." indicating issue to the 29th Division, 113th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Company. All numbers are matching with the exception of the extractor, which has been force matched and the magazine. Complete with a short history of the 29th Division during World War I. CONDITION: Metal components retain bountiful amounts of finely reapplied blue finish, exhibiting few minor areas of wear overall, and exhibiting some nicks and dings beneath the finish. Markings are still sharp and clearly legible, with machining markings still visible in most areas. Strawed components have been refinished en suite with the blued components. Bore is bright, showing oxidation and retaining fair rifling throughout. Checkered walnut grips show smoothing all around, with some nicks to the diamonds, as well as a few scattered impressions. Left grip panel exhibits a small loss just below the safety lever. A nice World War I unit marked Erfurt P.08. -MLW-
