Lot consists of (A) Springfield Armory Manual. Dated "1891" on the cover. Manual covers the Trapdoor series of rifles and carbine. It also covers Smith & Wesson No. 3 and Colt Single Action Army revolvers. CONDITION: Papers are very good overall. Spine and covers have some warping and discoloration. There is some light water damage on the inside cover. (B) Springfield 1863 Musket manual. Dated "1863" on the front cover. Covers the care and cleaning of Springfield muskets. CONDITION: Paper has discoloration and wear. There is some tearing at the spine. (C) Payroll document for Lt. James D. Henderson of the 8th U.S. Colored Troops along with 1 servant covering January through March 1865. Henderson had served as a sergeant in Co. M 3rd PA Heavy Artillery before gaining a commission as 2nd lieutenant Co. D 8th USCT on 12/10/1864. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant 3/25/65 and mustered out 11/10/65. The regiment served in the Department of the South and the Army of the James. It was particularly hard hit at Olustee and Chaffins Farm, and lost 4 officers and 115 men killed or mortally wounded from its muster in at Philadelphia 11/1/63 to its muster out 11/10/65.
