Imperial German Gewehr 98 8mm rifle with saw blade bayonet. Rifle is marked "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER A.G. OBERNDORF A/N. 1918" and "Gew.98.", with the standard Imperial German proof markings on the receiver. Barrel is "S" marked which indicates the conversion to "Spitzer" ammunition. Matching numbers present only on barrel, receiver, bolt release, front sight blade, and rear sight. Remaining components are either mismatched or unnumbered. No import mark. Sling is a reproduction. Walnut stock has scattered dents, scrapes, and marks, with the correct Imperial German markings on the lower right butt. Bayonet with a "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER A.G. OBERNDORF A/N." marked polished blade dated "14". Blued steel scabbard is marked to the same manufacturer as the blade, with numerous light to heavy dents. CONDITION: Very good plus. Blued components retain less than 75% of their original blued finished, with most of the wear being on the front band and trigger guard assembly, with patina. Non-blued components on the rifle itself have been polished, and the bolt assembly has a uniform gray patina. Wood is very good with dents and scratches. Rifling is dark but strong, and appears to have some pitting. Bayonet and scabbard are very good with polished blade, patina on blade fittings, nice wood, and a number of dents on the scabbard. WZ
