Imperial German Karabiner 98A 8mm carbine. Rifle is marked "ERFURT 1916" and "Kar.98." with the standard Imperial German proof markings on the receiver. Matching numbers present only on receiver, magazine follower, bolt release, rear band, floor plate, trigger guard, and rear sight assembly. Bolt assembly is matched to itself, but not the rifle. Remaining components are mismatched. No import mark. Walnut stock is dark with numerous dents, scrapes, and marks, and appears to be unmarked. Handguard behind the rear sight is cracked through on the left side (inch and a half). CONDITION: Fair. Blued components retain less than 20% of their original blued finished with heavy patina, freckling, and graying over the remainder. Butt plate has heavy freckling. Non-blued components of the rifle present uniform gray patina with freckling. Wood is good to very good with dents and scratches. Rifling is dark but strong, and is likely to clean up. WZ
