Ball and Williams manufactured Ballard Sporting Rifle made in Worcester, Massachusetts circa 1862 to 1865 and marketed by Merwin and Bray, New York. Blued octagon barrel with dovetailed sheared blade front sight and rear screw mounted adjustable notched sporting sight. Barrel marked with "Ball and Williams" stamping and "Merwin and Bray Agents" typical markings. Barrel, action and breechblock all marked with same serial number. Walnut plain stock with steel crescent buttplate. Walnut forearm with steel nosecap and button for ejecting spent cartridge. CONDITION: 40% fading barrel blue with freckling and light surface pitting. Action has faded to a silvery plum color with areas of surface discoloration. Wood has traces of varnish with handling dings and marks. Dark bore with visible rifling with good mechanics. DLM
