Starr Model 1858 double action .44 caliber percussion six shot revolver engraved on backstrap "Commodore G. N. Hollins New Orleans Naval Station". Hollins was an intriguing character resigning his commission in 1861 and joining the Confederate Navy thereafter. His first official victory included him dressing as a woman and seizing the steamer "St. Nicholas" in Chesapeake Bay in 1861. He had a very colorful career as a naval officer in both U.S. and Confederate Navies and was Commander of New Orleans Naval Station. With the grouping comes various letters and photographs giving history of this colorful man's career and life and the pistol. Pistol is a typical Civil War vintage double action Starr revolver with New York Address and originally blued action with walnut grips. Accessories include a naval style leather belt with large steel buckle and period leather flap style holster. Gun comes in oak wooden case repurposed to hold this interesting lot. CONDITION: Revolver worn to a silvery patina with a dark bore and good mechanics. Grips are worn with usage scratches and dings. Leather items are in decent shape considering age with cracks and handling marks concurrent with age. Box is in good condition with handling marks. DLM
