One of 27,846 rifles built in 1882 at the Springfield Armory. This rifle features a blued round rifled barrel with pinned front blade sight, rear graduated rear sight marked with "R" with range to 500 yards then 1200 yards when sight is fully extended. Barrel is proofed with "VP", "Eagle" and "P". Blued 3 position lock marked with "Eagle" and "U.S. Springfield". Case hardened breechblock marked "U.S. Model 1873". Walnut full military stock with blued hardware including a "U.S." marked buttplate with no cleaning trap. Stock has "P" in circle proof near tang and "SWP 1882" in square block on left side of gun. Comes with original leather sling, original steel cleaning rod, and original style "U.S." socket bayonet in steel sheath with leather "U.S." marked frog. CONDITION: 90% fading blue with some light freckling. 90% vivid case colors on breechblock. 85% original varnish with light scratches and handling marks. Leather shows some cracking with some original black coating. Bayonet has 85% original blue with sheathing marks. Excellent bore and mechanics. A super trapdoor that would be hard to improve upon.
