Circa 1950s Western Costume Co. beaded hide war shirt. The shirt exhibits glass beaded strips that are laid over the shoulders and down the sleeves to the wrists. The strips are beaded on a backing strip which was machine sewn to the shirt with cotton thread. The interior of the shirt retains several period markings including the stamp for the Western Costume Company near the waist. The stamp is slightly faded but reads "58 / WESTERN COSTUME CO. / HOLLYWOOD CALIF." The interior of the collar has two stamps which read "W.C.C. / #46" and "Wynant #1". These stamps were used to identify different actor's outfits and costume selections/changes. The war shirt is attributed to noteworthy actor Chaim Wynant, who went by the stage name H.M. Wynant. Throughout his career, Wynant appeared in several western films and in many cases played the roles of Native Americans. Two of his more notable roles were in the film "Tonka" where Wynant played a Sioux Indian named Yellow Bull, and "Run of the Arrow" where Wynant played another Sioux Indian named Crazy Wolf. He also made several other appearances in western TV shows such as "The Wild Wild West", "Gunsmoke", and others. CONDITION: Some threading has come loose in some areas. There is a tear at the back of the collar and there is another tear in the shoulder. There are stains, especially on the back of the shirt, which probably occurred during production. Overall very good. JLD
