1904 vintage Winchester Model 1892 rifle, serial number 268264. 24" full octagon barrel with full length magazine tube. Standard sights. Chambered in most desirable .44-40 WCF cartridge. Plain straight grain walnut stock and forearm. Rifle style crescent butt. Blue with case hardened hammer, lever, and buttplate. Accompanying Cody Museum letter dated September 30, 2020 confirms configuration and warehouse receipt on January 18, 1905, with shipment from warehouse on June 30,1905 to order number 6535. CONDITION: Excellent plus with 95+% bright original blue overall. Some brown toning with light abrasions located on the magazine tube forward the forearm cap. The frame shows most all the bright original blue with a bright unmolested "peacock" blue loading gate. Strong case color present on loading lever and hammer. Trace of case color blending with a pleasing grey/brown patina on buttplate. Wood is excellent plus showing very modest wear with a few light mars on the stock and forearm. Overall a most attractive, high condition rifle approaching "benchmark" quality. Chambered in the most desirable .44-40 WCF cartridge. Would be most hard to improve on. -MKS-
