Winchester Model 1873 lever action rifle. Third model made 1890. Standard patent dates on top of the barrel. Upper tang marked "MODEL 1873" Octagonal barrel with blade front sight and buckhorn style V-notch rear. Full length magazine tube. Original finish on the metal components forming a heavy patina in most areas. Machined dust cover track, but sliding dust cover is absent. Oil finished wood stocks with a crescent metal butt plate. CONDITION: Metal retains little of its original finish with areas of heavy brown patina having formed. Wood has numerous handling marks, dings, scratches and gouges. Forearm looks to be solid. Bore is frosted with areas of pitting. Fair rifling overall. Mechanically inoperable, as the hammer will not cock when the lever is operated. The bolt is getting jammed allowing the elevator to not fully rise. Will need work. JWA
