Lot consists of (A) Continental flintlock musket or trade gun. Unmarked tapered round barrel with bayonet lug mounted on top, near muzzle. The origin of the faux British lock is unknown, but there is a poor version of the British crown over "GR" in the center and the tail is marked "LONDON / 17 77". The continental mounts are of brass and are engraved, showing similarities to Dutch mounts. The walnut stock is of mid-18th century form. CONDITION: Barrel shows scattered pitting overall and a chip at the muzzle. Lock appears to be in its original flintlock configuration with a poor period frizzen re-facing. Action is weak. Mounts very good showing a pleasing mustard patina, ramrod ferrules show some minor losses. About 13" at forend on left side have been replaced and about 10" on other side. An interesting musket that may warrant further study. (B) Silver-mounted New England tiger maple flintlock fowler. The long round tapered barrel is unmarked and features a hooked breech. The flat Germanic lockplate has beveled edges and a molding at the tail. Furniture is silver with back of buttplate being the only brass component. 2-piece sheet silver pierced sideplate and trigger guard tang and finial are pierced and inlaid. Convex oval-shaped wrist escutcheon with vacant inscription. Stock is of figured maple. Complete with an original wooden ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel has an applied brown patina. Lock is a reconversion and retains an applied brown patina. Silver is coated with yellowed varnish. Stock shows scattered marks from use, heavy wear and 15" of forend professionally replaced, as well as nosecap. DMG
