(A) LOT OF 2: FLINTLOCK RIFLE AND FOWLER.

Lot consists of (A) Germanic Flintlock rifle with swamped smoothbore octagonal barrel with sights mounted on top flat and an "IG" cartouche on left side of breech. Large Germanic musket lock with convex tail section. Plain brass European furniture. Walnut stock profusely decorated with relief scrolls and florals, features a sliding wooden patchbox with inlaid brass flower. CONDITION: Barrel retains a heavy applied brown patina. Lock probably replaced but appears to be in original flintlock configuration, retains a grey patina. Brass shows some wear and marks from use, retains a mellow mustard patina. Stock shows scattered wear and marks from use. Some wood replaced around lock and patchbox lid is a replacement. About 20" of wood replaced on forend. B) Early flintlock fowler with lock signed "I. HAINES". The unmarked 2-stage barrel is smoothbore. The flat Germanic lockplate has beveled edges and a molding at the tail. Bottom bevel marked "I. HAINES" in block letters. Brass European style engraved furniture. Stocked in partially striped wood with relief panels around lock and sideplate, as well as scalloping around comb. There is a relief carved leaf around the barrel tang. Stock form somewhat resembles early American form. CONDITION: Barrel retains a dark applied patina. Lock appears to be contemporary and signature is almost certainly spurious. Brass has a mellow mustard patina. Stock heavily refinished and with 12 - 3/4" replaced at forend. DMG
