Lot consists of (A) A Germanic early rifle with octagon barrel marked on top flat "ANDREAS . ALBRECHT. CHRIST. SPRING. 1760" in block letters and marked 'N. 6" on the tang. Early Germanic banana lockplate engraved with scrolls at the tail and cock engraved en suite. The engraved brass Germanic furniture is European in style and trigger guard has a sling swivel. Plain stock with a sliding wooden patchbox lid. Stock is carved with "C" scroll designs in relief behind checkpiece. Also has designs carved on left side of wrist and around barrel tang and ramrod entry ferrule. Bone-tipped wooden ramrod is a replacement. CONDITION: Rifle shows heavy wear and major restoration overall, including but not limited to lock reconversion, faux patina on barrel, and entirety of forend replaced as well as other splinters. Patchbox lid is very well aged but a probable replacement, showing little wear. Due to these factors, it is possible and probable that the signature is spurious. It would be interesting to have a wood test analysis done on this rifle. (B) Germanic relief carved long rifle with 2-stage iron barrel. Lock is a replacement and has a convex face. The brass trigger guard and ramrod ferrules are nearly identical to those found on Pistor Jaeger rifles carried by Hessian troops during the American Revolution. Sideplate is unengraved. Walnut stock has relief carving at barrel tang and simple scrolls on both sides of cheekpiece. CONDITION: Barrel shows heavy pitting and a browned surface. Lock is a reconversion and has a dulled blue finish. Brass retains a mellow mustard patina. Stock has about the last 35" replaced. Patchbox lid is original. An interesting rifle that is a candidate for additional research. DMG
