Lot consists of (A) Tiger Maple stocked American flintlock fowler. The tapered round smoothbore barrel has 2 private London view and proof marks on the left side of breech, silver half-moon front sight. Second lock has a flat plate with simple single-line engraved border. Brass furniture includes an engraved trigger guard with an acanthus leaf finial. Pierced and engraved sheet brass sideplate and a vacant silver oval-shaped wrist escutcheon. Figured maple stock with relief carved leaf design around barrel tang. CONDITION: Barrel retains a dark brown heavy patina. Lock has been reconverted to flintlock configuration. Brass shows some repairs and heavy use. Stock has some restoration to forend and scattered minor pieces replaced. An attractive fowler. (B) Early flintlock fowler. Tapered round barrel with 2 Birmingham proofs on left side of breech. European lock with convex faces and gold-lined waterproof pan. English style engraved brass mounts. Plain walnut stock of mid-18th century English form. CONDITION: About 41" of barrel and forend have been replaced, barrel tang cracked and raised up. Lock is a good professional reconversion. Brass shows some wear and is polished. An attractive lot of fowlers with excellent form. DMG
