Reproduction CS Richmond Type III percussion rifle musket, similar to those still manufactured by Pedersoli in Italy. 40" round barrel in .58 caliber with 3 groove rifling, blade front sight, and 2-leaf military rear sight. Barrel dated 1863 with "V / P / (five pointed star)" proof one left side of barrel above woodline. Lock with low hump is marked "CS / Richmond" in front of cock with "1863" (orientated vertically) behind cock. 1 piece plain walnut stock complete with 3 iron barrel bands with off center "U" marking, brass nosecap, and brass buttplate. "SA" cartouche on left side of stock similar to the cartouche on Richmond Type I muskets. Lockplate cavity is not cut for Maynard priming device. CONDITION: Very good as chemically aged with barrel and lock assembly turned an even chocolate patina. Trigger guard and barrel bands are finished bright. Brass buttplate and nosecap are bright. Front sight appears to have been taken off and rebrazed at one point. Stock is excellent with no major signs of distress. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand. Bore is good with well defined rifling. A faithful reproduction perfect for display or the reenactment battlefield. -TN-
