U. S. Model 1808 contract musket made by John Miles Jr. of Border Town, New Jersey and is one of 4,000 delivered by John Miles Jr. and John Kerlin Jr. circa 1810. Round smoothbore barrel with 2 band front band with brass blade front sight and proofed at rear with illegible proof. Original flint lock marked with "U.S." in oval in front of cock and "IV" at rear of lock which is the symbol used by Kerlin and Miles on their later guns. Walnut full military 2 banded stock with iron hardware with initials "INCK" carved on left buttstock side. Comes with original tulip head iron ramrod. CONDITION: Metal exhibits aged patina with some surface rust and pitting. Tang appears to have been welded and refinished. Lock appears original with some heavy corrosion. Wood has dark aged appearance with heavy wear and cracking near butt from poor storage and has had a light coat of varnish added. Dark bore with functioning mechanics. DLM
