1858 dated Harper's Ferry Model 1855 rifle musket with 40" barrel in .58 caliber with Model 1858 folding rear sight and blade front. Lock is equipped with Maynard tape priming device. Lock is marked "U.S." / "HARPERS.FERRY" with typical US eagle on Maynard priming device forward of cock with "1858" behind cock. No markings visible on barrel. Rifle is complete with an implement compartment with spare nipple inside. Comes with a US marked model 1855 socket bayonet that does not fit on to barrel. Ramrod is possibly the original. Single piece plain walnut stock in 3 barrel band configuration with sling swivels at second barrel band and trigger guard complete with brass nose cap and US marked military butt plate. CONDITION: Very good as heavily cleaned and polished with areas of heavy pitting throughout. Stock is very good as sanded and refinished with no major signs of distress and finish has started to "bubble." Brass nose cap has turned an even mustard patina. Action works appropriately and is tight with hammer stopping on both full and half cock. Bore is dark with heavy abrasion throughout and no visible rifling. TON
