Virginia Model 1797 Contract Musket A.K.A 1795 type musket made at Richmond Arsenal from 1803 to 1812. Round smoothbore barrel spuriously marked with "121 Va Regt BOTETOURT" of which no information could be obtained. Barrel has front sight which doubles as socket bayonet mounting. Barrel, sideplate, and lock(marked inside on parts) are all marked with "33". The lock is also marked with a "W" on the inside for inspector George Williamson. Flint lock has Gooseneck style cock and is marked "VIRGINIA" over "Manufactory" in script with rear marked "RICHMOND" in curved fashion and dated 1805. Walnut full military stock with iron hardware including 2 barrel bands and a double strap front band with a "W" marked behind tang that looks recently added. Comes with iron button top ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel has been cleaned and has been converted from flint to percussion then back to flint with evidence of filing and pitting from percussion ignition system. Lock has had added finish with some parts not matching correctly for markings of lock. Wood has coat of oil added over rough heavily used exterior with nail repair at wrist. Gun has been restored heavily. Dark bore with functioning mechanics. DLM
