World War I era American Propeller Manufacturing Company airplane propeller. American Propeller and Manufacturing Company was founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 1909 and manufactured 75% of all propellers used by the United States during World War I. This propeller is crafted from wood featuring a clear lacquer finish with gold painted reinforced wood tips and center hub. The face of the center hub is marked with the specifications, however they are obscured by the gold paint. This propeller is approximately 8 feet tall and since American Propellers manufactured so many propellers during World War I, this propeller could have been fitted to several types of aircraft. There are 2 American Propeller decals on each end of the wood blades that read "AMERICAN PROPELLERS & MFG CO. / PARAGON / BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, U.S.A.". The propeller comes with a hand made mount from the previous consigner. CONDITION: The propeller exhibits various scratches and scuffs along with a significant dent in the wood at the end of the left tip of the propeller. Despite the blemishes the propeller is in good condition for its age and will display well. Due to the dent in the tip, this propeller appears to have already been in one accident and will most likely cause another if an attempt is made to make it airworthy again. JD
