Manufactured for issue to the Reichswehr and Police units after the conclusion of World War I. Receiver is marked "1921" over the chamber area, with Weimar era eagle over "WaA4" acceptance stamps on the side along with eagle over ArA4 proof stamps on the receiver, breech block, and barrel. Barrel acceptance stamp is soft, with the code being partially worn away. Unit marking on front grip strap has been scrubbed. Rear of frame is marked "4.61", which is this Luger's pre-1922 provisional unit marking. Toggle bears the DWM monogram. Matching numbers include the frame, locking bolt, trigger, sideplate, barrel, receiver, trigger bar, extractor, breechblock, firing pin, and toggles, which are serialized in both the commercial and military fashions. Receiver axle and grips are mismatched, with the safety lever and magazine being unnumbered. Metal components retain a mostly CONDITION: Metal components exhibit a mixture of parts with original and arsenal reapplied bluing, exhibiting areas of wear that show through to silvering. There are areas of light surface oxidation that has turned the bluing a matte color, as well as a few areas of light pitting on the barrel and under the grip panels. Bore is bright, showing some very light oxidation and retaining fair to good rifling throughout. Checkered walnut grips show smoothing as well as a few minor nicks and impressions. Left grip panel bears a chip to the rear of the safety lever. -MLW-
