Miller and Val. Greiss are recorded in Munchen between 1870 and 1890. Dovetail lump barrels with German silver bead front sight on horizontally dovetailed island with V notch rear sight that has one fixed standing leaf and one folding leaf, unmarked. Rib with crosshatch matting and central reserve with "MILLER & VAL. GREISS IN MUNCHEN". Dual gold bands over breeches with doll's head rib extension. Underside of barrels with "14151`" and a cross, lump marked "B". Sling swivel on soldered on island with crosshatch checkering en suite with rib. Checkered forearm with wedge for retaining barrel and horn underlever opener. Silver plated back action locks and body engraved with tight scroll and geometric scroll. Dolphin form hammers engraved en suite, with strikers protected by fences. Flowy German trigger guard with rear of guard made of horn and actual guard made of metal and engraved en suite with balance of gun. Double set triggers. Point pattern checkering at wrist, with sling swivel along stock belly. Widow's peak buttplate with crosshatch checkering en suite with rib and sling island, and a small reserve with "4151", matching last four of numbers on barrel. Interestingly, the right side of the stock also has an nicely inletted plaque that rears, vertically "H / D / Th / R / G / S / A," with numerous brass tacks next to each letter, clearly indicating game taken. This gun was clearly well used and loved as the barrels have been relined for use once the original set was shot out. CONDITION: Very good. Barrels retain much of the blue mixing with brown patina throughout. Some normal marks throughout from the field. Forearm is very good with checkering softened by repeating use and an added layer of varnish, with a chip at left side towards tip and on right near hinge pin. Action and frame are very good, gently cleaned, with spotting throughout, and silver flaking. Stock is very good with an additional layer of varnish and bumps and bruises from the field. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand, bore is very good with strong rifling. This is a really lovely rifle that has plenty of charm. EW
