Of solid bronze construction throughout, with bore intended to be loaded with a signaling flare or black powder charge loud enough to signal the start of a race. Cannon is made of turned bronze, while mount is cast. Bolts and washers for affixing cannon included. Rear hole for ignition is not bored through completely. Stamped 2243H over an anchor with an 80, possibly a maker mark. Prior owner Virginia Hudson has a property stick affixed. CONDITION: Very good, with bronze having a rich mustard patina throughout. Bore is clean. EW
