Invented by Charles and Sebre Howard circa 1862 to 1866 and built by Whitney Arms Company, Whitneyville, Connecticut. This lever action single shot rifle has a blued round rifled barrel with blade front sight and adjustable rear sight with "C. Howard Patented Sept. 26 & Oct 10 1865-Oct 28 1862" on left side at breech and on the right "Manuf'd For Howard Brothers-By Whitney-Arms-Co.-Whitneyville, Conn.". Blued frame with single trigger and loop lever. Walnut plain stock with crescent steel buttplate. Rare gun with low production. CONDITION: Metal parts have faded to a brown patina. Wood has dark finish with some usage marks and dings. Lever latch does not always catch. Good bore with sharp rifling. DLM
