Lot consists of (A) Manufactured in 1905. This was Colt's first attempt at a double action revolver. Matching serial numbers on the frame, trigger guard, and back strap. 2 piece gutta percha grips with Colt logo. Gun works in both double and single action. Gun comes with 4 rounds of ammunition. Factory letter indicates shipment on March 9th, 1905 as a 4 - 1/2" .38 Colt gun to Wm. Read and Sons, Boston, Massachusetts in a shipment of 50, with factory engraving "Am. Exp. Co. No. 1223", which is partially visible on backstrap. CONDITION: Gun retains 25% of the original blue finish. The case color has turned to a silvered patina. Frosting in the lands and grooves. Normal wear with no chips or cracks on the grips. Engraving is heavily worn, with only "Am. Exp." visible on backstrap. (B) Single shot break open action. Nickle receiver with blue barrel and hardware. 2 piece wood grip panels. CONDITION: Frame and grip straps have 95% of the original Nickle finish. Barrel and hardware retain 95% of the original blue. bright and shinny bore with sharp lands and grooves. Grips have just a few small handling marks. REW
