Springfield US Model 1807 type I flintlock pistol, dated 1818. 10 - 7/8" round barrel in .69 caliber smoothbore with Wickham's improvement barrel band and brass front sight. Lock is marked with a period US eagle in front of swan neck cock with "SPRING / FIELD / 1818" behind cock. Barrel is dated 1818 near breech with "P (in oval) / (Eagle's head) / V" proof on left side of barrel just above wood line. Iron trigger guard has "EA" inspection mark, just ahead of trigger. 1 piece plain walnut stock reinforced by iron backstrap. Stock bears "S" and "ET" cartouches on left side, both in ovals. CONDITION: Excellent as lightly cleaned and still in original flint with light pitting throughout. Iron grip cap, trigger guard, and backstrap are turning a pleasing dark gray patina. Stock is excellent with handling marks throughout but no major signs of distress. Action works correctly and is tight with hammer catching on both half and full cock. Bore is mostly bright and smooth with heavy abrasion toward muzzle. Overall an excellent example of a desirable US Martial pistol. TON
