U.S. Springfield Model 1840 flint lock musket made at Springfield Armory in 1841. National Bright finished round smoothbore barrel with "V" "P" over Eagle inspection marks with tang dated 1841. Springfield flint lock with brass pan and narrow sideplate with distinctive round hole in cock. Lock marked with Eagle over "U.S." and at rear "Springfield 1841". Walnut full military stock with illegible inspector mark on left side. Stock has iron National Bright hardware with 2 barrel bands and a double strap front band. Comes with tulip head steel ramrod. CONDITION: Gun has been cleaned long ago with some surface corrosion around touch hole. Lock appears to be original flint. Wood has aged dark look with repair around lock with nails. Dark bore with good mechanics. A hard rifle to find with most converted to percussion. DLM
