Circa 1909. A fine pair of British game guns with dovetail 28" blacked steel barrels. Barrels are fitted with ejector and dolls head extensions on smooth concave tapered game ribs with steel round front bead sights. Ribs read "WILLIAM EVANS, (FROM PURDEY'S) 63 PALL MALL. ST.JAMES'S. LONDON.". Breech end of ribs are scroll engraved and bear (1) and (2) in gold. Breech end of barrels with light scroll barrel bands and dolls head extension with light floral engraving. Bottoms of barrels stamped with serial number "8586" and ID markings. Barrel number (1) is chambered for 2 - 3/4" and barrel number (2) is chambered for 2 - 1/2" cartridges. Left barrels are stamped "CHOKE" and right barrels stamped "MOD CHOKE" near barrel flats. Barrel flats on both guns reads "CHOKE", "1 1/8","NITRO PROOF", "12", "12 / C" in diamond and with appropriate London proofs. Chokes in the number (1) gun are Modified and Improved Cylinder. Chokes in the number (2) gun are Modified and Improved Cylinder. Dark grey patina, screw grip sidelock actions are built with disc set strikers, dolls head third fastener lock up, gas escape ports, single mechanical triggers with right barrel bypass feature, auto-safe with "SAFE" in gold, safe slide checkered and top lever with checkered thumb piece. Top levers are numbered "1" and "2" in gold and read "EVANS PATENT SINGLE TRIGGER" in gold at spindle. The faded case colored actions are adorned with lovely full coverage scrolls and sidelock plates read "WILLIAM EVANS" in bar. Single trigger protected by fully engraved trigger guard that extends to the guns scroll engraved bottom straps. Reddish brown English walnut stocks are nicely furnished with drop points, diamond cut English straight hand grips with fine point checkering. Gold oval on toe line with initials "SCA" engraved in fancy cursive italics. Buttstocks finished with brown leather covered pads. Matching splinter forend with matched checkering, Anson style forend releases, engraved escutcheons, engraved diamond pin and scroll engraved exterior iron metal marked "1" and "2". CONDITION: Very good. Barrels retain approximately 80 percent original black, with some handling marks from use and storage. Actions are sound, ejectors are timed well and triggers feel crisp. Case color hardening has faded to a dark blue grey patina. Stocks with light marks from usage or storage. Forends are very good. Nice, early, classic and traditional pair of English game guns. CP
