Colt Special Model 1861 rifle musket, dated 1864. 40" round barrel in .58 caliber with 3 groove rifling multi-leaf rifle rear sight and blade front. Barrel is dated 1864 near breech with "VP" proof on left side and has "E.P.R." inspector mark with "STEEL" next to it on left side just above wood line. Lock is marked with Colt's patent and Hartford, Connecticut address forward of cock with "1864" behind cock. 1 piece plain walnut stock in 3 barrel band configuration complete with US marked military buttplate.
