Circa 1951. This African game shotgun from a vintage manufacturer with a great reputation is built with chopper lump 22" blacked steel barrels with 3" chambers and ejectors. The tapered concave game rib has been fitted with a rear island sight and a ramped bladed island white front sight. Rib reads "COGSWELL & HARRISON LTD.", "EXTRA QUALITY VICTOR EJECTOR", and "168 PICCADILLY LONDON." Breech end of rib with light floral scroll and breech end of barrels with light scroll bands. Barrel bottoms are stamped with London provisional mark. Barrel flats are stamped "12 (in diamond), 2 - 1/2", 64187 (serial number), NITRO PROOF, 1 - 1/8, CHOKE and with London proofs. Chokes are cylinder and cylinder. The dark case color hardened sidelock action has been built with blacked double triggers, gas escape ports, and is non-auto safe. Triggers are protected by a right hand rolled edged trigger guard and extends to a long bottom strap. Trigger guard with light scroll engraving and bow has is adorned with a gold "C". Bottom strap with light scroll and with gold inlay of serial number "64187". Action is engraved with scrolls, rose bouquets and with "COGSWELL & HARRISON" engraved in banner. Blacked top lever has scored thumb piece and safe slide is filed. Early English walnut stock with straight hand grip is finely checkered and has gold oval bearing the initials "SCE". Butt stock with brown leather covered pad. Matching splinter forend with matched checkering, scroll engraved iron metal, diamond shaped pin, escutcheon and checkered Anson style release. Iron metal is blacked and internally beares the guns serial number. CONDITION: Very good. Barrels with some a couple areas of lost blacking from gun rack in safari truck and from forend rub. Ejectors are timed well. Action and triggers are very good. Action benefits from re-case color. Stock and leather butt pad are very good with some light handling marks. Forend very good with some minor wear to finish near iron metal. Nice shotgun for thin skinned game and birds. CP
