With only 1,000 units produced for the United States Military in 1863, the Lindsay 2 shot musket is a oddity of the Civil War, utilizing superposed loads, a single auto selecting trigger and 2 percussion hammers to fire 2 shots before reloading. This example is in standard military configuration with a 41" rifled .58 caliber barrel mounted with a 3 leaf rear sight graduated to 500 yards. Barrel is retained by 3 iron bands to the single piece walnut full length stock. Stock marked with "ADK" cartouches indicating inspection by Albert D. King. Breech marked "LINDSAY / PATEN'D. OCT. 9. 1860", with additional inspectors marks found throughout other components. Rifle is complete with a tulip head ram rod. CONDITION: Very fine with original "bright" finish. This rifle shows very little evidence of field use with only minor, scattered handling marks on stocks and a few spots of corrosion on metal components. Markings crisp, with cartouches possibly enhanced. Bore excellent and fine mechanics. A hard to beat example of a scarce Civil War rifle! BAS
