Only 1,011 full length rifle examples of this early single shot bolt action were produced by the Springfield Armory in 1871 for military trials. This rifle features a 32 - 5/8" in the white barrel with flip up ladder rear right and bayonet lug front. Barrel retained by 2 iron bands to a full length walnut stock. Stock marked with script "JWK" and "ELA" oval cartouches. Hardened receiver marked with American eagle and "U.S./SPRINFIELD 1871". Self cocking bolt assembly marked "WARD.BURTON.PATENT/DEC.20.1859 FEB.21.1871". CONDITION: Very good. Receiver polished bright, rather than blackened. Some brown spots of patina throughout. Stock very good with some scattered marks. Very good bore with strong rifling. Fine mechanics when cycled by hand. BAS
