Winchester Model 1879 Hotchkiss First Model Musket assembled at Springfield Armory from 1879 to 1899. This gun falls into First Model status with a serial number of 4767 with records indicating less than 1500 produced. Round in-the-white finished rifled barrel with pinned blade front sight with graduated rear "R" marked sight. Barrel marked with "W.W.K." for Navy inspector "W.W. KIMBALL", "R", "US" , naval anchor and "VP / (Eagle)". Winchester receiver with patent dates from 1869 to 1877 and Winchester address. Bolt marked with "H.N." for inspector Henry Nettleson. Full walnut musket style stock with no markings. Stock does not have First Model safety cutoff on right side. Gun has two steel "U" marked barrel bands with steel buttplate marked "12" on top for probably a racking number. Comes with original steel cleaning rod. CONDITION: Metal has possibly been cleaned a long time ago with some light surface corrosion. Wood has been cleaned to a pleasing aged look with some light handling marks and dings. Shootable bore with good mechanics. A hard to find rifle. DLM
