Blued 20" barrel with "C / V / P / (Eagle Head)" proofs. "C" marked Buffington rear sight and blade front. Walnut carbine stock mounted with 1 spring-retained blued iron band, saddle ring bar, 2 piece trigger guard and "US" marked trap butt containing the cleaning rod. Stock marked with script "SWP/1888" cartouche and circle "P" proof. Case hardened breech block marked "US/MODEL/1884" and blued lock plate marked with federal eagle and "US SPRINGFIELD". CONDITION: Fine. Retains significant portions of original blued finish thinning to brown patina. Faint case colors visible on breech block. Several small areas of older corrosion pitting on the tang, in addition to cleaned freckles along the barrel. Stock lightly sanded with cartouche faint. Expected dings throughout with a small loss at the tip of forend. Bright bore with some pitting. Crisp mechanics. BAS
