This last standard model of the trapdoor series of rifle built at Springfield Armory until 1893 features a round screw driver rod bayonet. This example is fitted with the standard 32 - 5/8" blued barrel with "V / P / (Eagle Head) / P" proofs and chambered for .45-70. Buffington adjustable rear sight and blade front sight. Full length walnut stock mounted with 2 blued iron bands and fitted with "US" marked trap butt, which still retains its tools. Stock stamped with script "SWP / 1891" cartouche, circle "P" proof at wrist and a "39" rack number near the butt. Low arch case hardened breech block marked "US MODEL 1884" and blued side plate marked with federal eagle and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD". CONDITION: Good. Significant portions of the original thinning blued finish are retained, especially in protected areas, with an overall dark patina and a few minor spots of older corrosion. Butt stock cleaned with scattered marks throughout and several more significant marks ahead of trigger guard. Very good bore with strong rifling. Fine mechanics. BAS
