Half moon front sight, U notch flat top rear sight. Right side of slide with Springfield Eagle and "MODEL OF 1911. U.S.ARMY". Left side with three line patent information, and two Line "SPRINGFIELD ARMORY / U.S.A." with flaming bomb at rear. Barrel with horizontal "P" on left lug, "S" on right lug. Barrel bushing, slide release, and hammer with easily visible "S" stamps; further disassembly not performed. Frame with flaming bomb mark on left side of frame, left side of dust cover with "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" mark. Spurred hammer with bordered checkering, thin tab safety, early relief milled slide stop, short 1911 grip safety, long milled trigger, checkered magazine release, and smooth flat mainspring housing with lanyard loop. Springfield two tone magazine with folded over "winged" baseplate with lanyard loop. CONDITION: Excellent, and rarely found with this level of original condition. Retains the extreme majority of the original blue finish, with some silvering rubbing to high edges. Barrel hood with some very minor cycling wear. Straps have some extremely minor handling marks and dotted patina that does not detract. Grips are excellent, with some minor handling marks. Left scale with green verdigris in center, not removed to avoid damage to checkering. Magazine is excellent with some minor handling marks and spotted patina, with attractive rainbow hue at two tone transition. Action works appropriately, bore is excellent with strong rifling. Accompanied by a USGI 1911 holster manufactured by Hoyt in 1918 and incised "DA" on inside flap. Holster is excellent with some verdigris to brass and age related rubbing but supple and with strong stitching. It would be extremely difficult to upgrade the quality of this piece. EW
