German Cold War 10×50 Carl Zeiss Periscope mounted on a World War I - World War II era US Navy pedestal mount. These periscopes were known as the Richtungsweiser-Doppelfernrohr 10×50 and were manufactured for only two years between 1956 and 1958. They were originally mounted on armored vehicles, but were most commonly used for observation and monitoring activity along the Berlin Wall. The periscope is marked "RWMK / 12-133-1847 Carl Zeiss" It appears that several data plates were removed. The pedestal mount is marked "A21 BU 321-5-1 USN". The periscope and pedestal mount have been polished in order to illuminate the original steel and brass metals. The elevation control, traversing mechanism, sight controls, and focus adjustments are all operable and the periscope moves in all directions with ease. The periscope measures approximately 89" from the base of the pedestal to the top when the elevation control on the mount is extended and approximately 80 - 1/2" inches when the elevation control on the mount is distended. Both the periscope and pedestal mount are finely polished and remain bright while exhibiting scattered scuffs and scratches. There are scattered areas of pitting as well as age related discoloration. CONDITION: Very good. JLD
