World War II Japanese "big eye" ship binoculars on a US Navy pedestal mount. The binoculars are marked "Nippon Kogaku / Tokyo". Today this company is better known as Nikon. The mount is marked "A21 BU 321-5-1 USN". The binoculars and mount are constructed of polished steel with brass lens shields and adjustments. The brass lens shields are most likely post-War applied in order to make the binoculars more visually appealing. The binoculars measure approximately 82" tall from the base of the pedestal to the top when the elevation control is extended, approximately 62" when the elevation control is distended, and approximately 32 - 1/2" long from lens to lens. The optics remain clear and the lenses do not exhibit any serious cracks, chips, or blemishes. Both the binoculars and pedestal mount are finely polished and remain bright while exhibiting scattered scuffs and scratches. There are scattered areas of pitting as well as age related discoloration. CONDITION: Very good. JLD
