Manufactured by Mauser. This Mauser Banner 42 code P.08 was likely manufactured towards the end of the war from remaining parts and components for commercial sales. It is speculated that only around 700 of this variation were manufactured, of which a very small selection were only stamped with solely commercial proofs. This example is marked "42" over the chamber, indicating the year of the receiver's manufacture, and bears a Mauser Banner logo on the toggle. An eagle over "N" commercial proof is present on the left side of the receiver and the left side of the breechblock. Otherwise, the only other stamping (aside from the serial numbers) is "P.08", which is present on the left side of the frame. Major metal components have been refinished, with the strawed components also retaining a reapplied finish. Matching numbers include the frame, locking bolt, trigger, sideplate, safety lever & bar, receiver, breechblock, toggles, and magazine. Barrel and firing pin are unnumbered. Frame is mounted with a set of checkered 2-piece black plastic grips. CONDITION: Metal components retain the vast majority of their reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some scattered areas of wear as well as some scattered handling marks that show through to silvering. Frame exhibits some areas of rust beneath the grip panels. Strawed components retain most of their reapplied finish, as well as some areas of oxidation. Mirror bore, retaining well defined lands and grooves throughout. Checkered black plastic grips show wear and smoothing all around, with some areas showing some nicks and losses to the diamonds. With a very small number of this Luger variation being produced later in the war, this makes for nice example of a seldom encountered Luger variation. MLW
