Regulation M1852 US Navy officer’s sword and scabbard. Civil War blade width. Standard configuration with leather scabbard and brass mounts with ring bands in the form of cables and a sea serpent on the drag. Gilt brass hilt with oak leaf and acorn motifs cast and chased on the pommel and open-work guard, with sea serpent upper knuckleguard and quillon. USN on banner in the guard. Sharkskin wrapped grip with wire binding. Blade with clear PDL maker stamp of Lunenschloss, who supplied many blades to U.S. retailers during the Civil War. Blade with gray stains but some visible etched nautical and patriotic motifs. CONDITION: Good to very good. Middle mount retains sword sling clasp. Good edge and point. Blade might respond to careful cleaning. This is the regulation sword for officers both on sea duty, the blockade, and the “brown water navy.” SR
